Yorina
A luminous voice, delicately cracked. A hushed singing style, an airy softness, harmonic inventiveness, melodic richness, and constant bridges between classicism and modernity—Yorina brings enough to the table to enchant the most diverse audiences. She is instinctive, releasing all the fragrances of seduction with a certain sense of abandon. She expresses her refined elegance, unique songwriting, and radiant tones with restraint. Music is her refuge, her armor against life’s raw forces. Initially a professional seamstress who became a singer by a happy accident, the turning point came in 2015, the year she designed stage costumes for The Dø. One evening at Dan Levy’s—male force behind the duo and producer for artists like Jeanne Added, Thomas Azier, and Laura Cahen—guests were invited to sing a Beatles song. She joined in, instantly captivating the audience, especially the host himself. That night marked the beginning of an artistic alchemy that would stand the test of time. Levy became her close creative partner, a brilliant arranger who brought his expertise and touch to the final birth of her songs. It’s worth noting that Yorina composes from the piano. And that she sings in English—not out of snobbery, but because of a multicultural heritage (a Sicilian and pied-noir father, a German and Russian mother). With a Slavic silhouette and striking looks (formerly a Ford model), Yorina also embraces a bipolar musical identity. She’s equally at home with Di Bosco, a DJ project that gracefully spans from delightfully unhinged Italo-disco to underground Chicago house-inspired sampling. She is, in any case, eclectic in her musical passions, switching with playful appetite from Bill Withers—an artist she’s adored since age five—to Post Malone or Gracie Abrams. Delayed by a label change and the pandemic, Yorina waited four years to release a follow-up to her debut chapter. If Dry Your Tears—an EP shaped by soul-deep sorrow (the loss of her brother at 26) and hope-tinged melancholy—was a blossoming, what’s coming now feels like full bloom. Her most recent EP, Bliss & Grief, released in June 2022, plunges us into her dreamlike universe with touches of indie folk and synth pop. Yorina unveils a vibrant fragility and a vital sense of letting go. Profound and captivating.
