Matthew Lucas, better known as PEEKABOO, has evolved from one of bass music's most exciting rising talents into a household name in the scene. Hailing from Detroit, a city with a rich musical history, PEEKABOO has carved out his own space in electronic music with a signature sound that defies conventions. Blending deep basslines, infectious grooves, and genre-bending creativity, he leads a movement of artists focused not on the "loudness war," but on crafting innovative, groove-driven music. PEEKABOO’s journey began with a childhood surrounded by music. His father, Bill Lucas, played trumpet for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and their home often echoed with the sounds of jazz and orchestral music. These early influences laid the foundation for PEEKABOO’s own path, though his pivot to electronic music came after a pivotal moment: hearing Skrillex’s Kill Everybody while gaming. This track sparked his obsession with sound design, ultimately leading to his debut EP Revenge in 2017 and breakout hit “Babatunde” with G-Rex in 2018. From there, PEEKABOO’s career has been a steady rise. He’s built a catalog of iconic records, including “Aliens,” “Hydrate,” and “Badders,” his 2023 collaboration with Skrillex, Flowdan, and G-Rex. Badders exemplifies his ability to blend UK and US bass influences into a seamless, global sound that resonates in underground clubs and massive festivals alike. His artistry was further cemented with Eyes Wide Open, a debut album that tells his musical story through 13 tracks. Spanning dubstep, UK garage, house, and trap, the project pushes boundaries while staying grounded in the bass-heavy grooves fans love. The album features collaborations with Zeds Dead, LYNY, Grabbitz, and even his father on the emotional standout “You Got Me.” Tracks like "Badders" and "POWA" (with Zeds Dead) have dominated dancefloors globally, while genre-defying tracks like “Don’t Wanna” and “Music Box” showcase his versatility. PEEKABOO’s live performances are equally groundbreaking. His sold-out 2024 headline tour saw him sell over 45,000 tickets across the United States, and his innovative 360° immersive shows continue to redefine the concert experience. Whether on massive festival stages like EDC Las Vegas, Electric Forest, and Ultra Music Festival, or at intimate venues like Denver’s Mission Ballroom, PEEKABOO’s ability to captivate audiences is unparalleled. In 2025, PEEKABOO is set to dominate the festival circuit with appearances at EDC Mexico, Lightning in a Bottle, and HARD Summer. PEEKABOO’s distinct visual aesthetic, including a neon green palette and refreshed logo, reflects his evolution as an artist. With a steadfast commitment to authenticity and innovation, PEEKABOO is poised to continue his meteoric rise. Whether delivering high-energy anthems, groovy underground tracks, or emotionally resonant collaborations, PEEKABOO stands as a beacon of creativity in the bass music scene.
